Who We Are

Atlantic Central is the trade association for member credit unions in Atlantic Canada.

We are dedicated to helping credit unions become the financial institution of choice. We do this through leadership and the excellence of our people, products, services, and strategic partnerships.

We support credit unions with a wide range of services.

Our History

In 2007, Credit Union Central of New Brunswick, Credit Union Central of Nova Scotia, and Credit Union Central of Prince Edward Island began discussing the benefits of joining together to create one new regional Central for member credit unions in Atlantic Canada. Combining the three organizations would mean that:

  • Products and services could be delivered more quickly
and efficiently
  • Credit unions would have access to more specialized expertise with an expanded employee complement
  • Operating costs would be reduced, and savings reinvested in new product and services to support credit union growth and competitiveness.

As a result, Atlantic Central was officially formed following the amalgamation on January 1, 2011.

The Credit Union Difference

A credit union is more than a bank. While credit unions offer a full suite of financial products and services just like a bank, the credit union commitment goes beyond transactions.

It’s enriching the lives of members by providing financial services that meet their individual needs.

It’s building strong healthy communities.

It’s supporting local businesses.

It’s investing profits back into local communities, making an impact in the places we call home.

Credit union members are shareholders and have a say in how their credit union operates and credit unions are accountable to their members who live and work in the communities where they are located. Learn more about how credit unions make a meaningful difference for their members and communities.
