Our first shared service, Risk Management & Compliance, officially launched on January 28, 2019 and we are looking for an Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Specialist to join our Risk Management & Compliance team. In the role of AML Specialist, you’ll report to the Manager, Compliance and you’ll serve as Atlantic Service Centre (ASC) subject matter expert in Canada’s anti-money laundering legislation and be responsible for Verafin alert processing and case management, AML regulatory reporting, and for supporting customers on all AML-related matters and activities.


  • Serving as the subject matter expert on credit union requirements pertaining to AML legislation – Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act (PCMLTFA) and remediation.
  • Performing AML business-based risk assessments.
  • Performing AML relationship-based risk assessments and making risk mitigation recommendations, including but not limited to: evaluating and actioning Verafin alerts; managing customer-submitted STRs; performing case management cases; and generating and submitting regulatory reports on behalf of customers.
  • Conducting enhanced due diligence, seeking customer input and completing thorough case documentation. Meeting with customers to review cases and risk assessments and providing risk mitigation recommendations.
  • Tracking and proactively managing customer AML compliance and control issues.
  • Performing analysis of account and transactional information and identifying new or pending Verafin settings that require changes. Updating Verafin settings accordingly.
  • Providing AML compliance guidance and support in response to customer inquiries/requests. Includes: application of Regulatory Compliance Management (RCM) framework, remediation planning, and compliance audit preparation.
  • Staying current on AML and Verafin related changes and developments in the financial services industry and assessing the potential impacts of these changes on AML-related services.
  • Assisting the Manager, Compliance by identifying changes to the RCM (policies, processes, procedures, and controls) in accordance with regulatory/compliance landscape developments.
  • Supporting the Manager, Compliance in the development of training content. Delivering training for relevant topics related to the overall AML function.
  • Identifying and making necessary changes to AML knowledge repository assets with approval of Manager and notifying customers.
  • Supporting the Manager, Compliance in the annual review of internal controls, policies and procedures within the department.
  • Completing other duties or projects as assigned


The position offers the ability to telecommute.

This position requires occasional travel throughout Atlantic Canada and occasional evening and weekend work.

The ideal candidate for this position will have Verafin user experience and have successfully completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or Finance, plus have 3-5 years relevant AML experience within a financial institution, preferably a credit union; or have an equivalent combination of experience and education.   A Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) designation will be considered an asset.

The successful candidate will have the following skill set:

  • In depth knowledge of Proceeds of Crime Money Laundering Terrorist Financing Act (PCMLTFA) and FINTRAC Guidelines
  • Sound knowledge of the financial regulatory environment and requirements

This is a permanent full-time position and is rated a Salary Level CU-6 ($55,636 – $65,454). Atlantic Central offers a competitive benefits package as well as the opportunity to participate in the Performance Sharing Incentive Plan.
