Located in the beautiful Annapolis Valley, Valley Credit Union is a full service financial institution with 7 branch locations, 70 employees, and over $150 Million in assets.  To join the finance and administration team, Valley Credit Union is seeking a Financial Accountant to work in the Head Office located in Cambridge, Nova Scotia.

Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, the Financial Accountant will be responsible for a variety of accounting functions including, but not limited to posting and balancing various business transactions, maintenance of GL Accounts, account reconciliations, preparation of monthly financial statements, month end reporting as well as involvement in budget preparation and oversight.  The Accountant will also work on a range of ad hoc financial reporting and analysis projects to support management’s business planning and decisions.   As a member of a small finance and administration team, there will be an opportunity to work collaboratively with a great team and gain exposure to various areas of the business while continuously expanding on your experience.  The successful candidate will demonstrate strong analytical skills and a high attention to detail coupled with the ability to work both independently and as an effective member of a team.   Business Acumen along with the ability to establish and maintain solid working relationships is required as this role will work with external auditors, regulators and other partners throughout the Credit Union system.

The ideal candidate will have completed a post secondary education in Accounting and will have completed, be in the progress of completing or be willing to pursue a professional accounting designation.  Previous accounting experience in a similarly fast pace business environment will be considered a definite asset.  You will have experience working with an accounting software package and will demonstrate confidence in learning new systems and procedures.  Highly motivated with a strong work ethic, you demonstrate exceptional organizational and time management skills and are keen to learn and continue developing professionally.
