Senior Asset Liability Analyst

Atlantic Central is looking for a Senior Asset Liability Analyst to generate high quality interest rate risk analysis and reporting, to participate in providing strategic financial consultations to both credit union clients and internal clients and assisting them in achieving long-term profitability and viability.

THE POSITION:
Reporting to the Manager, A/L Services, the Senior A/L Analyst is responsible for:

  • Generating and/or supporting interest rate risk modeling and reporting for credit unions in the Atlantic Provinces and Atlantic Central
  • Analyzing simulation results in terms of interest rate risk and preparing executive summaries
  • Consulting with credit unions on specialized financial management services including interest rate risk, liquidity management, budget development, margin analysis, pricing analysis, and capital planning to aid in decision making
  • Developing on and off-balance sheet strategy recommendations and providing advice to manage interest rate risk that may include derivative strategies
  • Participating in the education of credit union management and Boards on financial and balance sheet management concepts and strategies through the development and delivery of training programs and one on one presentations
  • Maintaining a database for the Atlantic system statistical data and generating management reporting packages and analysis for credit unions, internal users and regulators. Identifying and building future database and reporting enhancements
  • Developing and updating innovative tools and formats of use to credit unions
  • Identifying opportunities to improve the financial modeling and reporting using knowledge of financial modeling techniques and concepts
  • Providing interpretation, analysis, financial information and reports to various internal and external users
  • Participating in the fostering of strong long-term credit union relationships through regular contact, including phone calls and visitations
  • Participating/advising in the development, implementation and maintenance of credit union policies and procedures relating to balance sheet risk management, management reporting and budgeting
  • Maintaining written procedures for the position
  • Acting as the primary back up to the Manager A/L Services
  • Completing other projects and duties as assigned.

Occasional travel, primarily within the Atlantic Provinces, may be required.

THE PERSON:

The ideal candidate for this position will have successfully completed a Bachelors degree with a concentration in Finance, Business Administration, or Commerce plus have a minimum of 5 years financial analysis experience (preferably a financial institution); or have an equivalent combination of training and experience in finance, or accounting.  Enrolment or completion of a CMA or CFA designation would be considered an asset.

The successful candidate will also have the following skill set:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of advanced financial concepts and financial products
  • Comprehensive financial analysis and modeling skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in financial statement analyses
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of financial institutions and balance sheet risk management practices
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret financial data, assess risk, generate projections based on multiple factors including interest rate dynamics, and prepare management reports including conclusions and recommendations
  • Demonstrated high degree of proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong working knowledge of database software (i.e. Microsoft Access) and Word
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using financial modeling software would be considered an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare management reports

COMPENSATION:
This is a permanent full-time position and the salary for this position is currently under review. Atlantic Central offers a competitive benefits package as well as the opportunity to participate in the Variable Compensation Program.
