Atlantic Credit Unions Accepting Donations for Canadian Red Cross New Brunswick Floods Appeal

In light of the recent severe flooding in New Brunswick, Atlantic Canadians are looking for ways to help. Atlantic Central, on behalf of Atlantic credit unions, is participating in a donation collection campaign to assist the Canadian Red Cross with its New Brunswick Floods Appeal.

Donations may be made in person at any participating credit union in Atlantic Canada, or directly to the Canadian Red Cross. To find a credit union near you, please click here and search for the credit union by name, community, or postal code.

To donate directly to the Canadian Red Cross, you can:

  • Donate online at www.redcross.ca/FloodsNB/AtlanticCreditUnions
  • Call 1-800-418-1111
  • Donate at your local Canadian Red Cross office
  • Send a cheque, payable to the Canadian Red Cross
    and earmarked “New Brunswick Floods” to:

Tax receipts will be issued by the Canadian Red Cross for individual donations of $20 or more, and we advise donors that the receipts will not be issued until after the close of the Canadian Red Cross campaign. Food Drives Being Held to Celebrate Co-op Week/Credit Union Day

Atlantic credit unions serve approximtely 304,500 members at 166 points of service, and have been ranked #1 in customer service excellence for 13 years consecutively by an independent survey of Canadians. Staff at the 49 credit unions in Atlantic Canada are very dedicated to supporting their local communities and providing members with a focused approach to achieving their financial goals.

Because Atlantic credit unions are truly committed to the well-being of their communities and recognize that hunger is a very real and serious issue, many of them will be holding food drives on various dates throughout the month of October. These food drives, in support of local food banks, are just one of the ways Atlantic credit unions will honour their commitment to the well-being of their communities.

Atlantic credit unions will join 235 million credit union members around the world to celebrate Co-op Week (October 15th to 19th) and International Credit Union Day on Thursday, October 18, 2018.

Credit Union Harry M Daley Memorial Bursary

The Credit Union Harry M. Daley Memorial Bursary was established in recognition of one of the founding fathers of the Credit Union Movement in New Brunswick.

Eight (8) bursaries valued at $2,750 each will be awarded in 2017.

Bursary Eligibility

  • Open to students pursuing their first year of post-secondary education at an accredited university or college in Canada.
  • Students must have lived in NB for at least one (1) year as of the application deadline.
  • Two (2) bursaries will be granted to each zone: 1 member/1 non-member for a total of eight.

Two Cape Breton Credit Unions Amalgamate in the New Year

Congratulations are extended to the Board, management and staff of the newly formed Cape Breton Credit Union!  Effective January 1, 2017 Coady Credit Union in Glace Bay and Steel Centre Credit Union in Sydney officially amalgamated. Cape Breton Credit Union’s new CEO, Gary Forsey is excited for this new beginning. “The amalgamation will create a stronger combined credit union to focus more resources on member service, relationship building and business development. The new name, Cape Breton Credit Union, is a reflection of our commitment to Cape Breton in terms of community support and local decision-making and control.”

Cape Breton Credit Union’s 23 employees will continue to proudly serve their 5,800 members throughout the Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM) from their existing locations at 340 Prince Street in Sydney, and at 135 Reserve Street in Glace Bay.
