Beaubear Credit Union Celebrates 75 Years of Service to its Members
On Monday, July 22nd, Beaubear Credit Union celebrated their Diamond Anniversary and were thrilled that so many members and friends dropped into their branches to enjoy food, fun and friends.
Memorabilia commemorating this historic milestone was given out throughout the day which included coffee mugs and pens. 95.9 Sun FM Radio joined them for a live radio remote, and they quizzed the public with historical questions about Beaubear Credit Union giving away $75 gas cards to those who gave the correct answers.
The credit union was honoured to receive a certificate of recognition for their 75th Anniversary from the Honourable Tilly O’Neil Gordon, Member of Parliament – Miramichi on behalf of the House of Commons. This will be proudly displayed in the credit union’s Water Street Branch.
There were many highlights during the day. One needing special mention was Vince and Dorothy McCarthy (both in their nineties) who joined them to share in the festivities and many interesting stories of the early years of the credit union. Vince’s father, John McCarthy was a founding member of Beaubear Credit Union who unexpectedly passed later in 1938. In due course, Vince became a volunteer, and in the years to come became increasingly involved. He gave many, many hours to the establishment and success of Beaubear Credit Union. Both he and Dorothy were involved in “Kitchen Meetings” that rotated between (to name a few) the Coughlan, Dolan and McCarthy homes, to learn more about the Co-operative System and financial independence. Several of these meetings involved groups from the Coady Institute, which included international members. Vince and Dorothy were kind enough to send a note the next day which read in part,
“… Congratulations on receiving the Coady Award! We want to thank you for the many years of financial service to us. We anticipate a most successful future for Beaubear Credit Union. Sincerely, Vince and Dorothy McCarthy.”
Beaubear Credit Union is proud of their heritage and commitment to the Miramichi, where they’ve worked, lived and played since 1938.
A sincere ‘Thank You’ is extended to everyone who supported Beaubear Credit Union’s 75th Anniversary and shared in this memorable day!
