Credit Union Staff Conference in PEI Keeps Employees Informed, Connected
Charlottetown – On October 22, 2011, over 200 front line and back office employees, lenders, investment specialists and management of PEI’s credit unions came together for a full day of learning opportunities. The day culminated with a celebration of long term service that saw 73 staff members receive service awards for 5 through 35 years of service.
Professional Development on a Range of Topics
Representing all of PEI’s 10 credit unions, the employees took part in sessions covering diverse topics ranging from sales and communication skills development through product knowledge sessions covering cards, insurance, and investments, to general interest sessions on new polymer bank notes and how staff can help credit unions build their youth membership.
Cancer Event Donations Acknowledged
Lori Barker, the new Executive Director for the Canadian Cancer Society, PEI Office, appeared to thank PEI credit unions for their generosity and continued support to the Relay for Life. In 2011, credit union staff raised another $43,000, bringing the overall donation total to $287,000. The importance of continuing to contribute was underlined when Lori asked long-time credit union employee and cancer survivor Sandra Reeves to come forward and share her story. With a captivated audience, Sandra opened up about the heartbreak and challenges of coping with cancer. Her final, powerful messages: cherish each day; continue to support the cause; and never give up!
Over 1,000 Years of Service
To wrap up the very full day, the conference hotel, the Delta Prince Edward, hosted a dinner banquet, which celebrated acombined 1,050 years of experience. The banquet culminated in 35 year service awards to Ray Giddings of Metro Credit Union and Susan Bourque of Malpeque Bay Credit Union.
