Credit Unions in Nova Scotia Continue Support to IWK

In 2008, after 30 years of fundraising, the credit unions of Nova Scotia joined the IWK’s Million Dollar Club – but that didn’t slow them down. Their latest donation of more than $17k was presented to the regional health centre on June 3, 2012 at the annual telethon.

The funds were raised through bowl-a-thons, jeans days, and other events throughout the year. Contributing credit unions this year included East Coast Credit Union, Province House Credit Union, iNova Credit Union, Valley Credit Union, Teachers Plus Credit Union, Credit Union Atlantic, New Ross Credit Union, and Steele Centre Credit Union.

The cheque was presented by Angela Tomlik, Fall River Branch Manager of East Coast Credit Union (ECCU), along with her children. Regular presenter, ECCU CEO Ken Shea, was unavailable this year. Ken Shea is also the IWK District 4 Fundraising Chair.

According to Mr. Shea, “Supporting the IWK is important to the staff of credit unions of Nova Scotia because the IWK Health Centre is a critical institution that serves the Maritimes, it is a place that changes lives and saves lives, by providing critical and specialized care to thousands of women, children, youth and families throughout the Maritimes.”

Beginning August 1, Nova Scotia credit unions will be hosting an IWK raffle, with a prize of two tickets to any Air Canada destination in North America, Mexico or the Caribbean*. Tickets will be $10 each or 3 for $25, with tickets being sold exclusively through participating credit unions. A list of participating credit unions will be announced shortly.

Prize draw will take place on November 30, 2012.
