East Coast Credit Union – First Credit Union in NS to Hold Simulcast AGM

On April 23, 2012, East Coast Credit Union held their first annual general meeting (AGM) for their new organization, and became the first credit union in Nova Scotia to hold a simulcast AGM.

East Coast wanted to provide an alternative to enable more members to participate in their AGM. Serving approximately 30,000 members from 20 branch locations from Cape Breton to Halifax, the question of where to hold an AGM was a difficult one. The solution … a simulcast meeting!

With the expert IT services of the Nova Scotia Community College’s Strait Area Campus in Port Hawkesbury and Waterfront Campus in Dartmouth, East Coast was able to hold one meeting in two venues and have participation from both sites.

“We were very excited to be able to use this type of technology and provide greater participation options for our members,” said East Coast President and CEO, Ken Shea. “We extend our sincere thanks to the technical staff for their co-operation and excellent service.”

The meeting began with invited bursary recipients being announced and awarded their certificates – 19 were presented in Port Hawkesbury and 7 presented in Dartmouth. “It was very rewarding to have a great number of our youth present and their families. We wish them well in their future endeavours and hope they are inspired to become future leaders of our credit unions,” said East Coast Credit Union’s Board Chair John Peach.

East Coast Credit Union enjoyed a successful year of progressive change and overall growth and development. July 1, 2011 saw the amalgamation of East Coast Credit Union and Heritage Credit Union. This opportunity to grow stronger together has created a significant credit union presence in Nova Scotia, with East Coast now serving 30,000 members from 20 branch locations and 2 Business Service Centres. They have assets under management of $340 million and a strong equity position of 8.8% as at the 2011 year-end.

East Coast Credit Union remains committed to providing exceptional service delivery to their members. 2012 will see the organization focus on synergy within while continuing to look for every opportunity to better serve their members.

The credit union wishes to thank their members and staff for their continued support and dedication through a progressive year of change, and would like to introduce their new Board of Directors and Executive (*):
