East Coast Credit Union to Celebrate Refurbished Eco-Friendly Branch

East_Coast_Reno_revOn Thursday, June 6, 2013, East Coast Credit Union will celebrate its newly renovated, eco-friendly branch located on 155 Ochterloney Street, Dartmouth NS, with an Open House. The event will take place from 4-6 pm, and will include a special ribbon cutting ceremony at approximately 4:30 pm with special guest The Honourable Darrell Dexter.

“We are very proud of our newly renovated branch and extend an invitation to the entire community to come in and join our celebration,” said Roban Gutowski, Branch Manager.

The renovations and new construction at Dartmouth have followed many state of the art building practices in order to be as environmentally friendly and energy efficient as possible. The building was renovated by reusing the original structure and expanding a two-story building to a four-story building, providing a greener footprint. The environmentally friendly design also incorporates features such as a cistern system that collects rainwater from the roof to be recycled for such things as flushing toilets, reducing costs and easing the burden on the water supply for the building; an efficient air/heat handling system that provides state of the art ventilation, heating and cooling; installation of energy efficient hand-driers in all washrooms to eliminate the use of paper towels and reduce paper waste; new signage and lighting that incorporates LED technology which was a larger initial investment but will reduce operating costs and energy consumption over the years to come.  The building also has a grass roof which improves insulation and contributes to a longer life for the roof.

“We want to show the local community how our new building provides a positive impact on the Downtown Dartmouth Business District,” said Ken Shea, President and CEO of East Coast Credit Union. “It’s a pleasure for us to demonstrate our continued commitment to building a stronger community.”
