East Coast Credit Union Wins 2012 Empowering Your Community Grant!
May 17, 2012
On May 7th Concentra Financial announced the recipients of their 2012 Empowering Your Community grants and East Coast Credit Union is very excited to be one of this year’s 18 recipients, winning a $10,000 grant to benefit L’Arche Cape Breton.
In mid-March, Concentra Financial asked Canadian credit unions to submit their proposals for a local project that is being led or championed by their credit union, as part of their way to celebrate International Year of Co-operatives 2012. The criteria was that it must embody our shared co-operative values and demonstrate credit union leadership within the community.
East Coast Credit Union submitted an application outlining its partnership with L’Arche Cape Breton. Since the beginning of their partnership in 2005, East Coast Credit Union has helped to raise awareness of people with developmental disabilities and helped to raise much needed funds to support their day programs. Staff have volunteered more than 5,000 hours to help with L’Arche events, spent time with residents and participated in fundraising efforts.
“We are very proud of our staff’s commitment to L’Arche, and to be recognized in this way will help create even more awareness,” says East Coast Credit Union President and CEO, Ken Shea. “This demonstration of true co-operative spirit helps us continue to strengthen our communities and build a better world.”
