Help Fight Hunger Campaign Kicks Off May 7th

Moncton, NB – The Food Depot Alimentaire and local area food banks are urging people to get out and help fight hunger by making a $5 donation during Hunger Awareness Week, May 7-11, 2012.

Hunger Awareness Week is about raising funds and awareness of the solvable problem of hunger in Canada. Food banks across the country hold fundraising events and tell the story of the work they do, and the stories of hungry Canadians assisted by food banks.

Activities in the Moncton area will begin at 11:45 am on Monday, May 7th with a flag raising ceremony and BBQ fundraiser at Moncton City Hall. All candidates running for municipal council have been invited to attend.

Other highlights include:

  • Fundraising activities at various Moncton-area middle schools including, Queen Elizabeth, Hillcrest and Bessborough schools;
  • A fundraising event and BBQ at the Molson Brewery on Friday, May 11th from 11:30 am thru 8:00 pm; and
  • A fundraising event in conjunction with the annual Biker Blessing at Toys for Big Boys on Saturday, May 12th from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm.

Moncton area businesses and organizations are being urged to hold their own fundraising events throughout the week to help fight hunger in Greater Moncton.

Donations can also be made at any Moncton-area branch of Advance Savings Credit Union or OMISTA Credit Union from May 7th thru May 11th.

This is the first of what will become an annual fundraising campaign with organizers hoping to raise $25,000 to help support the Food Depot Alimentaire and local area food banks with operational costs.
