The NS Co-operative Council & Atlantic Credit Unions proud to present the 2012 Atlantic Dream Festival with Michael J Fox

Halifax, NS – Michael J. Fox hosted a show called Adventures of an Incurable Optimist, and that is precisely what the Atlantic Dream Festival aims to encourage. The Nova Scotia Co-operative Council and Atlantic Credit Unions have teamed up with the organizers of the Festival to host the region’s largest motivational and leadership event.

Canadian icon Michael J. Fox will be the featured keynote, and he will be joined by television personality and design icon Debbie Travis, and the newest addition to CBC’s Dragons’ Den, Bruce Croxon.

The theme of the Atlantic Dream Festival is: “Dream It. Live It.” With this year’s keynote there is also a significant focus on theme of perseverance.  The Atlantic Dream Festival will take place from October 15th – 17th in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

“This year is the United Nations-declared International Year of Co-operatives,” noted Dianne Kelderman, the President and CEO of the Nova Scotia Co-operative Council. “The co-operative business model was built on the dreams and aspirations of Moses Coady and his peers; as well as some 310,000 Nova Scotians who continue the dream today. We feel very optimistic about the future and think that co-operative businesses are key in Nova Scotia’s success. The infectious optimism and inspiration the Atlantic Dream Festival provides was a great fit for us this year.”

“Credit unions serve and support the dreams and financial goals of over 330 thousand members in Atlantic Canada. We provide guidance and financial services that help members achieve their goals, and support their dreams for their families and communities,” said Bernie O’Neil, President and CEO of Atlantic Central representing Atlantic credit unions. “In Nova Scotia, for example, our tourism book is called the Doers and Dreamers Guide. That’s what we want for the Atlantic Dream Festival – for it to be a place for the people who let dreams guide what they do, and for those who take action to make their dreams come to life.”

The Atlantic Dream Festival is designed to inspire, empower, and educate people from all walks of life. The event attracts a vast mix: organizers expect nearly 10,000 attendees, from students to entrepreneurs and businesspeople, to members of the general public and seniors.

All public events are ticketed and all are welcome to purchase and attend.

The event is made up of a 160 booth tradeshow organized to inspire and empower attendees in areas of education, career, lifestyle, travel, appearance, and money – this will take place throughout all 3 floors of Trade Centre Limited.

The keynote event with Michael J Fox, Debbie Travis, and Bruce Croxon will take place on October 17th at the Halifax Metro Centre. There will also be a VIP Dinner on the evening of October 16th and a VIP After Party on the evening of October 17th.

The event has been made possible thanks to the generosity and support of entrepreneurial and corporate leaders from throughout Atlantic Canada. The event is being managed and marketed by The Momentum Group Inc. The organizers reported at a press conference last week that they have filled all four of their regional sponsorship levels: Sobeys Atlantic, Harding Premier Realty, Certified General Accountants of Nova Scotia, and Ernst & Young. The Province of Nova Scotia is also encouraging and supporting the event.

Saint Mary’s University under the banners of The Sobey School of Business, the Executive MBA Program and the MBA Program have taken the position of lead educational partner.

The Atlantic Dream Festival was established in 2010 by award-winning young entrepreneur Brad LeBlanc. Sir Richard Branson, the founder of the Virgin group of companies, was the keynote for the 2010 Atlantic Dream Festival which took place in Moncton, New Brunswick.

Businesses and organizations that wish to promote themselves are encouraged to take part in the Dreamshow. There is a limited quantity of tradeshow booths available in each category. Past exhibitors include everyone from Mercedes Benz and Costco to small businesses looking for exposure, promotion, and new clients.

Tickets for this year’s event are the most affordable of any event that The Momentum Group has run and organizers credited the size of the venue and the amazing support of sponsors.  Tickets to the keynote event will range from $65 – $200 based on seating. There is a limited number of VIP Packages and premium seating also available.

Tickets to the event will go on sale through the Metro Centre on May 7th with pre-sales being offered by sponsors.
