NBTA Credit Union supports rehab centre with Concentra grant
Concentra Financial recently announced the recipients of their 2012 Empowering Your Community grants. NBTA Credit Union is pleased to announce that they are one of the 18 winners of a $10,000 grant to help fund a project with the Stan Cassidy Centre for Rehabilitation.
In mid-March, Concentra Financial asked Canadian credit unions to submit their proposals for a local project that is being led or championed by their credit union, as part of their way to celebrate International Year of Co-operatives 2012. The criteria was that it must embody our shared co-operative values and demonstrate credit union leadership within the community.
NBTA Credit Union has recently entered into a partnership with the Stan Cassidy Centre for Rehabilitation and the Stan Cassidy Foundation. The Stan Cassidy Centre, located in Fredericton, is one of only two rehab facilities in all of Canada that treats patients throughout their entire lifespan, from birth until death.
The Stan Cassidy Centre provides treatment for complex autism spectrum disorder, spinal cord injury, complex stroke, acquired brain injury, and various neurological diseases such as muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy and spina bifida. The centre’s experts – from a full range of medical, therapeutic and engineering disciplines – uphold Stan Cassidy’s original vision of inclusivity of those with special needs. Stan realized this vision through innovative partnerships, his conviction that people needed a hand up and not a handout, and his infectious passion and personal financial commitment to what he believed in.
This project will benefit inpatients, out-patients and outreach patients of the Stan Cassidy Centre for Rehabilitation by providing them with specialized wheelchair cushions and/or backs that they can take with them to their home communities throughout New Brunswick and across the Maritimes.
