OMISTA Credit Union Mourns Loss of Dennis Williams
OMISTA Credit Union regrets to announce that Dennis Williams, General Manager of the former York Credit Union, passed away on May 28th due to complications from a recent illness. Dennis was a long-time credit union advocate, and was instrumental in the growth of York Credit Union from 1982 until the York-OMISTA Credit Union merger in 2010.
Dennis started his credit union career in 1972 as a Loans Officer at OMISTA Credit Union, continued on to work at CUMIS Insurance, CFB Chatham Credit Union, and then accepted the position of General Manager at York Credit Union in 1982. During his career with York, the credit union grew from $160,000 in assets serving 150 active members to become a two-branch operation with $50 million in assets serving 3,600 members. Dennis’ favourite part of his job was interacting with people, and he was very proud of the credit union system’s achievements as well as its staff and volunteers.
Dennis served in many credit union system positions including Director on the boards of Credit Union Central of NB and League Savings and Mortgage, President of the NB Credit Union Managers Association, and on various CUMIS Insurance committees. Dennis also served with many community groups including Rotary, People Care Inc., to name but a few.
Many of Dennis’ credit union friends will remember him for his untiring efforts and enthusiasm in organizing Atlantic credit union golf tournaments. In sunshine or in rain, Dennis could always be seen with a big smile on his face, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In his spare time, Dennis enjoyed woodworking (building doll houses and furniture) and home improvements.
Dennis is survived by his wife Brenda (MacAleese), two children Tobi Lea and Krista Dawn and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 1st at 1:00 pm at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton NB. (Click here to read obituary)
