PEI Credit Unions Title Sponsor for 2012 Culture Days on PEI

Charlottetown, PEI (June 5, 2012) – The PEI Culture Days provincial committee is pleased to announce that the PEI Credit Unions will serve as the title sponsor of the 2012 Culture Days campaign on Prince Edward Island.

Credit Union Culture Days on PEI will take place September 28, 29 and 30 across Prince Edward Island as part of Canada’s largest collective arts and cultural public participation campaign.  The third annual Culture Days weekend will feature free, hands-on and interactive arts and cultural activities.  It’s an opportunity to raise the awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of Islanders in the arts and cultural life of their communities, and a chance for Islanders to experience and celebrate the diverse range of creative and innovative talent within their arts and cultural community.

“The PEI Credit Unions’ sponsorship means there will be more funds available for artists, arts groups and municipalities in 2012 to organize Culture Days events and activities,” says Henk van Leeuwen, chair of the PEI Culture Days provincial committee.  “It will help provide resources to event organizers so they can buy supplies, or hire artists or staff to assist with their activities.”

Bernard Gillis, President of the Credit Union Managers’ Association, says the PEI Credit Unions’ sponsorship of Culture Days is a natural fit: “We appreciate how artists, artisans and performers contribute to this province’s quality of life and vibrancy.  We like how Culture Days is a province-wide initiative, and we hope our support translates into the creation of more arts and cultural experiences.”

Examples of 2011 Culture Days activities on PEI included heritage and backstage theatre tours, pottery and drama workshops, painting exhibitions, and jewelry-making.
