Annual Salary Range: $97,920 – $115,200

The Opportunity:

As the Chief Operating Officer (COO), you will serve as an integral member of the executive team and will report directly to the CEO.  You will be responsible for the development of the Credit Union’s strategic operational goals as it relates to branch operations, credit and deposit services management, member experience and communications.  As COO, you will manage a diverse team, provide effective and inspiring leadership, and be actively involved in all programs and services while identifying ways to leverage strengths to take advantage of opportunities.  Partnering with the CFO and Human Resources teams, you will accomplish business and control objectives and work with system partners to ensure acquisition and retention strategies are aligned with our service standards while ensuring risk controls are adhered to. 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Strategy & Planning – Identify operational objectives to align with the strategic direction of the credit union; design and manage key performance measures; ensure that the Credit Union and its mission, programs, and services are aligned on a local, regional, and national level.
  • Branch Operations – Monitor economic conditions to optimize growth opportunities while also mitigating risk; develop, implement, and evaluate sales/service action plans and programs to support organizational objectives including member relationship management; provide overall management, direction and coordination of retail and commercial banking operations within a multi-branch credit union.
  • Credit & Deposit Services Management – Design and implement initiatives to actively grow the credit and deposit portfolios while increasing product penetration within the membership; keep abreast of regulatory guidelines regarding investment, lending, and service opportunities; ensure that the loan portfolio is managed with acceptable risk levels and delinquency rates.
  • Member Experience & Communications – Oversee the effective delivery of internal and external communications to ensure key performance indicators and standards are adhered to; ensure the delivery of an endorsed community impact workplan; ensure the alignment of marketing and promotions to strategic initiatives; oversee the implementation of new products and services.
  • Team Development & Leadership – Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning, development, and professional standards; establish and maintain an effective system of communications through departments and functional areas; establish and monitor performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, and conduct annual performance appraisals.
  • Member & Board External Relations – Advocate for the Credit Union, its values, and its programmatic efforts; demonstrate high standards of professionalism, behaviour, ethical management, integrity, and honesty; represent the credit union with members, regulatory agencies, trade associations, and other community stakeholders.
  • Quality Control – Ensure consistent application of policies and procedures in all departments and for all processes. Monitor and resolve operational issues to improve member service.

 Hiring Qualifications and Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Business or Commerce, preferably a master’s in Business Administration.
  • Have six to nine years’ experience in a financial institution, preferably in the credit union system.
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong mentoring, coaching experience to a team with diverse levels of expertise.
  • Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive; a team leader who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical finance and administration initiatives.
