Manager of Accounting

Cape Breton Credit Union provides financial products and services to residents of CBRM and beyond. We are currently accepting applications for a Manager of Accounting. As a member of the leadership team, the Manager of Accounting is responsible for accounting and the financial reporting process.  In addition, the incumbent will lead staff in the delivery of exceptional member service, sound financial advice, and quality products.

Reporting to the CEO, the Manager of Accounting will be responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of the accounting system, and for leading the delivery of accounting and financial reporting. In addition, the Manager of Accounting will share responsibilities for functions related (but not limited to) risk management, strategic project development and accessing funding opportunities.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Working within deadlines, managing the credit union’s accounting and financial reporting processes as well as coordinating, implementing, and maintaining the credit union’s accounting information systems.
  • Generating and analyzing financial statements and year end working papers. Key contact with external auditors and government agencies.
  • Completing analysis and projections of cash flow, budgeting and business planning, investment strategies as well as strategic analysis to provide recommendations to Board and Management.
  • Developing and implementing risk management, benefits, and compliance programs. Ensuring compliance with GAAP, credit union regulatory requirements and standards of sound business practices.

Qualifications and Experience:

The ideal candidate for this position must possess a CPA designation. They would also possess superior financial and time management, analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to details. They must also have excellent verbal and written communication skills and possess a strong business acumen.
